ABOUT US

Carolyn Mitchell needed a change from her city corporate architecture career, and chose to relocate near to her birthplace of Mullumbimby in late 2003  - aurora design studio was born.

At aurora design studio we want you to feel happy about your purchases – to shop with a conscience.
Our motto, 'design with a conscience' means many things – specifically
we seek out and endorse beautifully designed products which support the artisans, designers, environment, ecology and society.

A tall order? Maybe, however our products are from local designers, fair trade organizations, recycled products, organic materials and ingredients, re-purposed goods, sustainable sources and ethical businesses. Put simply, green!

As we research and seek more and more gorgeous design, it is apparent there are various shades of green in the products available. The products which tick all the boxes are elusive! We endeavour to tick as many boxes as possible, so please appreciate we are doing the best we can, considering we need to be sustainable as a business too. We would love every product to tick every box……one day!

Where possible we provide a fact sheet alongside the products, so you can understand the particular aspects of each product. In store we love to tell you all about the designers and their wares, but in case we are busy it is all there for you to read and absorb.

We are also fiercely loyal to our designers! We encourage browsing and creativity in store and on-line, yet the designers we represent have invested, trained and worked hard to develop and produce their gorgeous products, so we will vigorously support their legal rights of copyright and intellectual property.

ABOUT THE STORE

aurora design studio is located in the beautiful village of Bangalow in Northern NSW.
aurora has developed and expanded over the years, and Carolyn’s initial vision of a store full of sustainable products has been able to flourish with emerging environmental consciousness of designers, suppliers, and most importantly, customers.

Where possible, aurora supports local causes, groups and charities. We have a gift wrapping donation money box, and for the past year have been collecting for the Rural Fire Service. It thrills us when donations are made without the gift wrapping!

A current initiative is through one of our suppliers, art viva. Betty Jane pink knitting needles, made from sustainable Tassie oak and hand painted, provide a percentage of supplier profits to the McGrath Foundation. On top of this, aurora will donate 10% of sale price to the Olivia Newton John Cancer Centre.

Visit us in Bangalow, we are open daily from 10am to 5pm.
